Smokehead High Voltage is a peated single malt Scotch whisky from Ian Macleod Distillers, hailing from Islay, Scotland. It’s a no-age-statement (NAS) whisky bottled at 58% ABV, amplifying the signature smoke and sea-salinity of the Smokehead line. The distillery and cask specifics are undisclosed. It’s meant as an intensification of the classic Smokehead expression—designed for those who relish bold peat power and maritime influence.

Tasting Notes:

  • Appearance: Deep amber with hints of burnished gold; thick legs and slightly oily texture in the glass.

  • Aroma: Robust coastal peat smoke, mingled with briny sea air, burnt biscuits, black pepper, sweet vanilla and toffee edges.

  • Palate: Intense smoke up front, oily and bold; layers of burnt toffee, malted barley, salt, coal smoke, citrus zest and vanilla creeping in. A raw peat core with touches of ash and coastal tang.
  • Finish: Long-lasting and warming; smoke and salt linger, with spicy pepper, a faint sweet smoke fade, and still some charred wood/peat embers.

  • ABV: 58%

Serving Suggestions: Best enjoyed neat in a tulip or Glencairn glass so the bold peat and smoke can open up. A few drops of water will help subdue the alcohol burn and reveal more subtleties (vanilla, citrus). Pair with rich, savory foods like smoked meats, grilled shellfish, or strong cheeses. Works also with dark chocolate desserts or as a dram by a fire.
