Reschke Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Terra Rossa soils of Coonawarra, in South Australia, a region famed for producing some of the country’s finest Cabernets. The vineyard is part of the family-owned Reschke estate, where vines are grown with strict attention to viticulture: low yields, careful canopy management, and selectively harvested fruit to preserve flavour intensity. The wine is often matured in oak to add complexity without overwhelming the grape’s inherent varietal character. It leans toward full-bodied style, with enough tannin and structure to age well but also delivering good fruit upfront. Typical ABV in many vintages is around 14–14.5%.
Tasting Notes:
- Appearance: Deep ruby to almost garnet core, rich colour saturation; purple hues around the rim for younger vintages.
- Aroma: Dark fruits dominate—blackcurrant, blackberry, sometimes plum; hints of mint or eucalyptus; oak-derived cedar, vanilla, and subtle dried herbs; maybe a touch of graphite or dusty earth in more developed bottles.
- Palate: Medium-full to full body; dark berry flavours alongside a savoury-herbal lift; firm, structured tannins; oak brings in spice (vanilla, baking chocolate) and subtle smokiness; acidity moderate but enough to give freshness and balance.
- Finish: Long, with fruit lingering, oak spice, and a clean dry end; tannins firm but gradually smooth out; potential for age improving complexity.
- ABV: ~ 14–14.5%
Serving Suggestions:
Serve at cellar or slightly below room temperature (16-18 °C). Decanting recommended for younger bottles to allow the wine to open up. Pairs beautifully with hearty red meats (beef, lamb), grilled steak, roasted game, rich stew, and aged cheeses. Also robust enough to handle dishes with smoky, spicy or herbal components.
