The Manor House (or “The Manor House Cabernet Sauvignon”) 2020 is a single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignon from Nederburg Wines in the Western Cape, South Africa. Grapes are sourced from vineyards in coastal regions (including Paarl, Wellington), planted on granitic soils with southern- or south-westerly facing slopes. After fermentation, the wine undergoes oak maturation—using a mix of new, second- and third-fill French and American oak—for about 27 months. It is full-bodied with firm tannins, offering a style designed to both drink now or cellar for a few years. Alcohol content is relatively high (~14.6%), giving it warmth and depth.
Tasting Notes:
-
Appearance: Deep ruby / dark ruby with garnet highlights; rich and dense colour
- Aroma: Ripe black fruits—blackberry, cassis, dark plum—with oak-driven notes of chocolate, mocha, vanilla; subtle herbaceous or tobacco leaf hints
- Palate: Juicy dark berry fruits up front; cassis and plum; oak spice (vanilla, dark chocolate, cedar) supports; firm, muscular tannins; good structure and weight
- Finish: Long and persistent; dark fruit and oak linger; solid dry finish with spice and a slight herbal undertone
- ABV: ~ 14.6 %
Serving Suggestions: Serve at about 16-18 °C to allow full aroma release. Decanting will help soften the tannins. Pairs excellently with grilled or roasted red meats (lamb, beef), rosemary-infused dishes, game meats, rich stews. Also good with aged cheeses or dishes with oak or smoky elements.
