Maker’s Mark is a Kentucky straight bourbon distilled in Loretto, Kentucky, known for its distinctive red-wax sealed bottle and gentler flavour profile. Its recipe (mash bill) uses corn as the base (≈70%), red winter wheat as the secondary grain (≈16%), and malted barley (≈14%) instead of rye. This substitution of wheat yields a smoother, less spicy bourbon, favouring soft sweetness, vanilla, caramel and oak. The bourbon is aged not by a fixed time but until its master distillers feel it’s ready — usually around 6-7 years — to ensure balanced maturation without harshness. It is bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV).
