Gunpowder Citrus Gin is a variation in the Gunpowder (“Oriental Gin”) range from The Shed Distillery (Drumshanbo, Ireland). It keeps the core of Gunpowder’s botanicals like juniper, oriental spices and gunpowder green tea, but adds pronounced citrus character—e.g. with varieties like California orange, grapefruit peel or rare Sardinian citrus (such as “Sa Pompia” / Citrus monstruosa). It’s bottled at
43% ABV. The gin aims to be refreshing yet bold (with tea-smoke, botanical depth, citrus lift) rather than overly sweet.
Tasting Notes:
-
Appearance: Clear, colorless spirit with clean clarity.
-
Aroma: Bright citrus (orange, grapefruit, rare Sardinian lemon-type fruits), fresh juniper, mild herbal/spice notes, and a hint of gunpowder green tea aroma.
-
Palate: Zesty citrus up front, then juniper and botanical warmth; the tea note comes through with subtle earthiness or smoke; balanced bitterness from citrus peel; spice and floral undertones.
-
Finish: Long and clean; citrus lingers, tea/green herbal notes, mild dry bitterness from peel, some spice warmth remains.
-
ABV: 43%
Serving Suggestions:
Best served with a premium tonic water over plenty of ice and garnished with fresh citrus (orange, grapefruit, or a twist) to highlight its citrus profile. Also excellent in citrus-forward gin cocktails such as a gin & tonic, Tom Collins, or perhaps a gin sour. Can also be enjoyed neat or with a splash of water to draw out the tea and spice notes.
